Learning objectives

The course aims to provide students the knowledge and understanding of the essential elements of Dentistry Conservative / Restorative also in the light of the epidemiological pathology of caries, traumatic injuries, anomalies of tooth structure and to the health needs of the population. The purpose of the course is also to provide the student with the ability to use the knowledge and understanding gained in the person identifying the risk of disease in order to implement the appropriate preventive or treatment as suggested by the most recent guidelines national and international.

During the course, topics related to the diagnosis, prevention and therapy of diseases reconstructive caries, traumatic injuries, anomalies of tooth structure congenital and acquired with particular attention to the use of materials and the application of the latest techniques of restorative dentistry

Teaching methods

The student at the end of the course, using the knowledge of anatomy, histology, microbiology, physiology, general pathology, dental materials, radiology, hygiene, preventive and community dentistry, periodontics must demonstrate knowledge and understanding about:
Promotion of oral health. Epidemiology, prevention, diagnosis and treatment of dental caries, dental trauma, abnormalities of structure and shape of the teeth.
The student also applying the knowledge and understanding acquired, shall be able, even collaborating with other professionals to:
• Assess the risk of tooth decay
• Give instructions for oral hygiene at home
• Draw up the most appropriate treatment plan with special emphasis on the patient, the treatment of pain and urgency, the elimination of the causative factors in accordance with the sequence of actions and relations with other branches of dentistry.

Assessment methods and criteria

The achievement of the objectives set by the course includes a written examination. Through questions about the contents of the course will be determined that the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content. Through questions related to the disease caries, strategies for prevention, diagnosis and formulation of treatment plans according to national and international guidelines, will ensure the ability to apply the knowledge acquired by the student
