Learning objectives

Learning the morphofunctional aspects of the gross and microscopic organization of the human body. In-depth knowledge of the face and neck anatomy to be exploited in the perspective of a future professional application

Course unit content

The circulatory apparatus. The heart: shape, position, relationship and structure. General features of the arteries, the veins and the capillaries. Arteries and veins of the general circulation. Generalities about lymphatic vessels. Lymphnode . Thymus. Spleen.
The alimentary apparatus: Teeth: classification and identification, morphology and function. Curve of Spee. Curve of Wilson. Dental arch occlusion. Tooth and paraodontal tissues. Odontogenesis. Shape, position, relationships and structure of the lips, the oral cavity, the major salivary glands, the pharynx, the oesophagus, the stomach, the small and large bowel, the liver, the pancreas.
Submental triangle, parotid and oral region.
The respiratory apparatus. Shape, position, relationship and structure of the nasal cavities, the larynx, the airways, the lung.
The urinary organs. Shape, position, relationship and structure of the kidneys.
The endocrine apparatus. General features of the endocrine glands.
The central nervous system. Surface aspects and internal organization of the spinal cord, the encephalic trunk, the cerebellum, the diencephalon, the telencephalon. Sensitive, optical, acoustic, vestibular, gustatory, olfactory, pyramidal, and extrapyramidal pathways.
The peripheral nervous system: General features of the spinal nerves, the cranial nerves, and the sympathetic system. Course and branches of the trigeminal, facial, and glossopharyngeal nerves.
