Integrated course unit module: HEARING AIDS IV

Learning objectives

The Course of Otolaryngology II is part of the integrated course Hearing II and aims to enable the student to learn and understand the fundamentals of inflammatory diseases of the middle ear. The student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding to formulate a correct diagnostic approach audiological instrumental in acute and chronic ear infections.

Prerequisites

Having supported the integrated course Hearing III.

Course unit content

The course aims to address the most important issues in the field of inflammatory disease of the ear. The topics are addressed to the basic elements of etiology, diagnosis and principles of treatment of acute and chronic ear infections. In particular, we consider the cholesteatoma of the middle ear (congenital and acquired), secretory otitis media in children and in adults, purulent otitis simple and their outcomes. Complications of otomastoiditi with special reference to peripheral paralysis of the facial nerve.

Teaching methods

Oral lesson. Lessons include the presentation in video projection content with the help of filmed documentation of specific audiological and clinical aspects. The last minutes of class are reserved for questions of clarification from the students. It includes discussion of case studies.

Assessment methods and criteria

Verification of learning and knowledge takes place during the appeals provided for by the teaching calendar, by oral question, the presence of the Board of Professors of the integrated course Hearing IV. The student must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and audiological signs of ear infections.
