Integrated course unit module: NEUROLOGY AND PSYCHIATRY

Learning objectives

1) Gaining knowledge and understanding of the psychopathology of the psychiatric disorders addressed during classes
2) Capacity to apply such understanding: e.g., Developing the ability to recognize and appropriately refer to specialist psychiatric treatment patients endorsing psychopathology.

Course unit content

Diagnosis and principles of treatment of those psychiatric disorders which are more relevant and frequent in dental care practice, including: eating Disorders, Anxiety Disorders (Panic Disorders and Phobias), and Personality Disorders.

Teaching methods

Oral classes with power-point presentations

Assessment methods and criteria

Written multiple-choice test (in itinere exam); students will also be able to implement their grades during an additional oral test (upon request to the teacher) should they be unsatisfied with the grade they got from the written test. However, this specification only applies to those students who passed the written test (score> or = 18). Questions of the written test will pertain the topics discussed during classes. The oral test will address those items which the student failed to give the correct answer in the written test.
