Learning objectives

The course aims to provide students with the first tools to start reading a territorial reality and understand his needs. In particular, we want to develop independent judgment and ability to analyze territorial problems at different scales, from local to European.

Course unit content

The teaching is in continuity with the mod A. Explores the themes related with the European educational sphere in geographical perspective. In particular, the course focuses on European cohesion policies, emphasizing the territorial dimension. The first part deals with general issues related to the concept of economic, social and territorial cohesion. The second part concentrates the focus on instruments with particular attention to the European Social Fund and using it to fund educational projects. This last part is always addressed in geographical key, linking the technical dimension of calls with the reading of the territorial and economic peculiarities and the local labor systems.

Teaching methods

The course will develop into a series of lectures which will be discussed in the various topics proposed. The lectures will be complemented by a series of seminars given by training experts from public and private institutions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Assessment will be done through a written examination. The questions will be three with varying degrees of difficulty that will allow to evaluate the accuracy of the study, the ability to link between general concepts and specific topics and, finally, the level of independence of judgment.
The task will be passed if the student will respond adequately to all three questions
