The degree course includes activities aimed at the acquisition of theoretical foundations and adequate operational elements with regard to: the biology of microorganisms, plant organisms and various animal species including man, at the morphological, functional, cellular and molecular level; mechanisms of inheritance and development; the presence and effects of living beings in the environment.

Adequate knowledge of mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics and chemistry as well as biological laboratory skills is expected.

The course includes a final practical work internship to be carried out in university or non-university facilities under the guidance of a tutor.

A long-standing course (biotechnology arrived at our university back in 1999), designed directly together with companies in the sector, to give you all the theoretical and practical bases in this modern and dynamic field of study, which moves between biology and chemistry, between economics and statistics. A multidisciplinary approach that will allow you to customise your programme of study, choosing the fields of application in which you wish to specialise: industrial, health, veterinary, agricultural. Laboratory experience and the 325-hour internship for all students (which you can carry out in university laboratories, companies and external organisations, or even abroad) will enable you to gain professionalism and technical skills that can be used in the world of work and research.

You can learn about the evolution of the Earth, learn its history, learn how to search for resources and manage the land sustainably, and deal with the mitigation of geological and climatic hazards. In other words, we will provide you with the basic elements to become a good geologist, with a comprehensive and high-level preparation.

You will acquire the indispensable cultural basis for the Second-cycle degree in Applied Geological Sciences for Environmental Sustainability or related second-cycle degrees.

Alternatively, you can enter the world of work after passing the state examination and registering as a 'Junior Geologist' and carry out qualified work in various working areas of the Earth Sciences.

The Degree in Materials Science trains professionals (Material Scientists) whose task, from the post-war period onwards and throughout the world, has been and still is to invent, develop, and optimize materials, i.e. the substances with which we build everything. This means, for example, graphene, ceramics, self-healing concrete, low heat conducting glasses, semiconductors, permanent magnets, emulsions, steels for aeronautics, carbon fiber composites for the automotive sector, electrodes for batteries, nanostructured silicon for solar panels...

Skills of this type require an education in science that is perhaps unmatched in extent among all undergraduate programs and which covers a large part of the chemistry, physics, as well as the necessary elements of mathematics, engineering and biology.

An interdisciplinary training of this caliber will be able to provide the student with the best chance of understanding what their passions and talents are in the hard sciences, as well as keeping more job opportunities open.

The Degree Course is aimed at all those who want to make the knowledge, appreciation, protection and management of nature and the environment their future profession. The course deals with the study of nature and current environmental dynamics, making it possible to assess the state of conservation of natural environments and providing the quantitative elements to understand the impact of human activities and the complex relationships between the environment and society. The integrated view of nature in its biotic and abiotic components, as well as the numerous field and laboratory activities planned, are strengths of the Degree Course that will enable the acquisition of interdisciplinary skills useful in tackling complex natural and environmental problems. This is also with the aim of planning possible interventions to maintain or restore the functioning of natural dynamics that are increasingly threatened.
