Senior Biologist

Tasks

The second-cycle degree in Translational Biomedical Sciences (TBS), in line with the 3 curricula of the second-cycle degree course (Health Biology, Neurobiology, Nutrition Biology), allows to perform high responsibility roles in biomedical, neuroscientific and nutritional fields.

The main working tasks include:

  • managerial and coordination activities in basic and applied research, in fields related to biological disciplines, in public and private research institutes, in industry, healthcare and public administration;
  • management of laboratories for biological and microbiological analyses, biological control and quality control of biological products;
  • promotion and development of scientific and technological innovation, as well as management and design of technologies;
  • promotion and coordination of preclinical drug test;
  • professional activities in collaboration with health facilities for the clinical drug test;
  • scientific biomedical dissemination;
  • designer, work supervisor and tester of installations, with regard to biological aspects and related applications in the industrial, health and nutritional field.
Skills

Consistent with the working tasks, the second-cycle degree graduated in TBS needs to possess specifical skills:

  • a solid and integrated cultural background in basic biology and in other applied biological areas;
  • a high level of scientific and applied training in the 3 curricula;
  • in-depth knowledge of instrumental methodology and data acquisition and analysis;
  • scientific investigation method expertise;
  • advanced knowledge of mathematical and computer support tools;
  • ability to interpret analyzed data and develop autonomous judgements on specific problems, including reflections on social, scientific and ethical issues;
  • ability to communicate the gathered information, the ideas the graduate intends to put forward in his/her field of work as well as the problems that may arise and their relative solutions to interlocutors specialised in the various fields of applied biomedical sciences;
  • ability to use written and oral English fluently, also with reference to disciplinary lexicons;
  • ability to work independently.
Career Opportunities

The second-cycle degree graduated in TBS can apply to a professional activity as a biologist by subscribing to the professional register (Section A) after the state examination.
