Communication Skills

The ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively is particularly important for civil and environmental engineering graduates. In fact, the typically interdisciplinary nature of the sector requires frequent relations with professionals from different backgrounds (architects, geologists, biologists, environmental science graduates, etc.). These skills are developed both through the traditional modes of learning (written and oral tests) and through the drafting and oral presentation of individual and/or small group reports on tutorial sessions, laboratory work and campaign activities, as well as through the in-depth study of particular aspects developed in individual lectures.
Finally, the final examination will provide students with a further opportunity for more in-depth study and verification of their ability to analyse, process and communicate their work. As a rule, this involves the writing of a paper produced by the student on one or more thematic areas addressed in the curriculum; for papers judged by the supervisor to be of particular importance, a discussion before a committee is also envisaged.
The communication skills acquired will therefore be assessed: during tutorial sessions, in particular in the drafting and presentation of project reports; in written and oral examinations; in the drafting and presentation of the thesis.
