Career prospects

In relation to the specific skills acquired in each of the two classes (LM-14 and LM-15), the graduate will be trained to enter the following professions:

a. Education and research specialist

b. Archivist, librarian, museum curator and cultural officer

c. Proofreader and text editor

a. Training and research specialist

Once the graduate has completed the acquisition of the required ECTS credits in relation to the appropriate groups of scientific-disciplinary sectors, he/she will be able to:

  • access, in compliance with the legislation in force and subject to passing the admission tests, secondary teaching as a teacher of literary and historical-geographical subjects in first and second-grade secondary schools, with teaching functions and the design of training courses in the relevant subject areas;
  • carry out advanced research, in the linguistic, philological-literary, historical, archaeological, artistic-musicological disciplines, as part of PhD programmes or at qualified public and private institutions.

Career opportunities:

  • teaching of literary and historical-geographical subjects in secondary schools (according to current legislation and subject to passing the admission tests);
  • technical and research activities in the sciences of antiquity, philological-literary, historical, archaeological and musicological sciences;
  • PhDs, subject to admission tests;
  • technical and research activities in public and private organisations, as well as foundations, in which research activities are carried out in the fields of the sciences of antiquity, philological-literary, historical, archaeological and musicological sciences.

b. Archivist, librarian, museum curator and cultural officer

The graduate, according to the specific skills acquired in the disciplines covered by the curricular options, will be able to:

  • collaborate in the conception and organisation of cultural events, such as conferences, exhibitions, etc., also of relevant scientific content;
  • elaborate and coordinate projects that promote and disseminate, including through the creation of multimedia products, classical and modern languages and cultures;
  • organise and manage the activities of archives, libraries, museums and superintendencies;
  • manage bibliographic repertories and contribute to the creation of databases in electronic format relating to the humanities;
  • participate with functions of high responsibility in activities aimed at the protection, management and enhancement of historical, archaeological, artistic and musical heritage (in private and public spheres, according to current regulations).

Employment opportunities:

  • Public and private companies active in the organisation and co-ordination of cultural events;
  • Archives;
  • Public and private libraries;
  • Museums, superintendencies, foundations and bodies in charge of the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage in the private and public sphere, in accordance with the regulations in force;
  • Cooperatives for the management of excavations and archaeological education;
  • Theatres and concert institutions; record companies.

c. Proofreader and text editor

The graduate will be able to:

  • apply writing skills to the production of high-level original texts in the fields of journalism, publishing, advertising and business;
  • prepare and revise texts and participate in editorial boards of periodicals and series in traditional and digital publishing, also in the field of music;
  • prepare and manage editorial projects;
  • manage human resources in the public and private sector;
  • manage public relations.

  • Public relations and personnel management sectors in public bodies and private companies;
  • Newspapers; advertising companies; corporate communications;
  • Freelance writing and non-fiction;
  • Editing and proofreading texts for radio, film and television (dialogues, script writers);
  • Editorial design.
