Learning objectives

Gain a better understanding of the neurobiological basis of interpersonal relationships and communication to improve the physician-patient relationship.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of neuroscience.

Course unit content

The purpose of this course is to present an up-to-date overview of the research conducted by cognitive neuroscience on the topics of empathy, intersubjectivity, and the implications for the physician-patient care relationship.

Full programme

Theories of intersubjectivity. The neural basis of intersubjectivity and empathy. Mirror neurons and embodied simulation. Implications for the doctor-patient relationship.
