Learning objectives

At the end of the course the student will have acquired the necessary tools for the analysis of historical architecture and the ability to produce advanced graphics through which communicate their design ideas in the specific field of architectural recovery.
Knowledge
At the end of the course the student will have a complete overview of the theoretical principles underlying the project of reuse of architecture and the main methods aimed at its representation.
Competencies
At the end of the course the student will be able to use the main tools of drawing and survey of architecture and to autonomously face the processes aimed at the realization of a project of restoration and reuse of historical architecture.
Making judgments
At the end of the course the student will be able to identify, as the subject of the recovery intervention varies, which are the best design strategies to adopt and which are the most appropriate methods and techniques of representation for the communication of their work.
Communication skills
Since representation is one of the main forms of language for the communication of architecture, upon passing the exam the student must necessarily have acquired the ability to communicate their ideas and projects through drawing.

Course unit content

The course is addressed to students in the last year of the master's degree course, already accustomed to using survey and representation as fundamental tools for the knowledge of architecture. For this reason the contents of the teaching will be mainly oriented to the deepening of the modalities through which both the relief and the representation can be configured as fundamental tools in the design of interventions aimed at the recovery of historical and not historical architecture. The course will be articulated in some theoretical lessons having the following topics:
- analysis and methods for the functional recovery of historical architecture;
- real examples of recovery interventions with functional change.
