Learning objectives

Knowing the main drugs and their potential for illegal use in sports.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of biochemistry, anatomy and human physiology.

Course unit content

The lessons concern the use of the main drug classes in connection with the pursuit of sport activities.

Full programme

Recall of general pharmacology (pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics and molecular targets of drugs, pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system).
Main classes of commonly used drugs: non-steroidal and steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, analgesics, depressants, stimulants and other modulators of the central nervous system, main modulators of cardiovascular and respiratory function. Drugs influencing hematopoiesis. Doping: voluptuous use of doping substances and accidental risk of it. Reference legislation.

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly) and will include slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recording of the lectures.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral exam.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
