Learning objectives

LEARNING ENDPOINTS
1 Knowledge and understanding
Systematic description of regional anatomy and morphology of human body, its macro and microscopic features in the different periods of life, organogenesis and phases of development

2 Applying knowledge and understanding
This knowledge must be applied to simple clinical reasoning (case studies)

3 Making judgements
Students are expected to be able to follow a reasonement of functional anatomy
4 Communication skills
Students are expected to use a proper anatomical language

5 Learning skills
Students are expected to be able to summarize a technical text

Prerequisites

Histology and General Embriology exam;
Anatomy I exam

Course unit content

Digestive system: macroscopic and microscopic anatomy and organogenesis of the digestive tract and related glands. Peritoneum and peritoneal cavity.
Reproductive System: general characteristics and organogenesis. Female reproductive system: macroscopic and microscopic anatomy of the ovary, uterine tube, uterus and vagina; morphological and functional aspects of the uterine and ovarian cycles. Male reproductive system: morphology and structure of the testis, epididymis, prostate and ductal system. Genitalia.
Endocrine System: morphology, architecture and structure of the endocrine glands: hypophysis, epiphysis, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal gland, paragangli, endocrine pancreas, cromaffine system and widespread neuroendocrine system.
Neuroanatomy: organogenesis and general organization of the nervous system. Macroscopic anatomy, architecture and structure of the spinal cord, brainstem, cerebellum, diencephalon, telencephalon with morpho-functional correlations. The cranial nerves. Pathways of voluntary and automatic motility. General visceral sensitivity. Anatomy of the visual, auditory and vestibular systems. The meninges, the cerebrospinal fluid and the ventricular cavities. Skull-brain topography. The autonomous nervous system. The peripheral nervous system: macroscopic anatomy with functional correlations and innervation territories.

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly) and will include slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recording of the lectures.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course consists in an oral examination. Through questions about the contents of the course the student preparation will be tested. Exams will specifically consist of 2 phases, as follows. Phase 1: identification and description of two microscopy slides; the student must recognize and describe both slides. Phase 2: oral examination with the evaluation of the knowledge of anatomy of digestive, reproductive and endocrine systems, neuroanatomy and topographic anatomy. The student must be successful in both phases, as indicated.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be done remotely, as follows: remote oral questions, through the Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/).
Students with SLD / BSE must first contact Le Eli-che: support for students with disabilities, D.S.A., B.E.S. (https://sea.unipr.it/it/servizi/le-eli-che-supporto-studenti-con-disabilita-dsa-bes)
