Learning objectives

The course does not require any knowledge of the Romanian language. Its primary aim is to provide students with an elementary knowledge of this language, which could be particularly useful for those interested in studying in Romania within the framework of European Union programs. The course aims to provide the student with:
- awareness of the historical and linguistic-cultural context of a romance language in the Balkans
- the acquisition of an elementary training and linguistic competence of the Romanian language written and spoken at A1 / A2 level.
During the course the student learns:
- to apply their knowledge in everyday communication.
- to use the basic morphosyntactic structures of the Romanian language.
- broaden the study of basic vocabulary.
- expand the ability to understand the written text.
With the occasion of the fact that Timisoara will be the European city of culture for 2021, interested parties are offered the opportunity to organize (perhaps even in the form of an internship) some public event aimed at making it better known in Parma.

Course unit content

The course is divided into strands that intersect with each other. The first presents the system of the modern language (with some minimal forays into aspects of a diachronic nature), also aiming at the acquisition of basic oral communication skills. But again, also through the commented reading of texts or watching videos, we will be confronted with the historical-sociological and cultural aspects of the country. We then propose reading with linguistic commentary of some easy texts and a series of elementary conversation exercises.

Bibliography

D. Astori, a cura di, P. Ilieşu, Petru Ilieşu e la sua Romania a 30 anni dalla Rivoluzione. Quattro momenti, Athenauem, Parma 2019. More articles will be put at disposal during the course at the page Elly.

Teaching methods

mostly frontal lessons. This year, 'cause of pandemic, the course will be held on line.

Assessment methods and criteria

Verification is carried out with a single exam at the end of the course. The exam is oral and focuses on the reading and linguistic commentary of a fragment of text, even not previously examined in class, from which to start asking more specific questions about Romanian. For the comprehension test the teacher uses material used during the course. The exam aims to verify the student's theoretical knowledge, as well as the conversation on topics covered during the lessons.
