Integrated course unit module: HEAD AND NECK DISEASES

Learning objectives

the student will be introduced to the following diagnostic techniques: fluorescein angiography, computer-assisted visual field examination, a-scan and mid-to-high frequency b-scan, biometry. They will also attend sessions of phacoemulsification. At the end of the course, the students will be able to perform a slit lamp examination, a cover-uncover test, an examination of the pupillary light reflex, an evaluation of the visual acuity in adults and children and an evaluation of a supected exophthalmus.

Course unit content

the students, by attending the outpatient clinic, the inpatient clinic and the operative theatres, will gain skills in clinical examinations of the visually impaired patients, as well as of those suffering for ocular adnexal diseases. The students will also attend surgical sessions, endorsing mainly cataract extraction procedures

Teaching methods

the aims of the course will be achieved by tutor-assisted practical sessions, (n = 2 students / session), performed in the University Eye Clinic.

Assessment methods and criteria

The verification will be implemented as part of the oral exam within the Course and contribute to the definition of the final grade
