Learning objectives

The course aims at providing knowledge of the general principles of epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases. Making judgements ability and specific communication skills ablity.

Course unit content

General aspects of the epidemiology of infectious diseases:host-parasite Problems related to care-related infections will also be addressedtionships sources and reservoirs of infection; modes of occurrence and spread of infectious diseases.
General aspects of direct prevention and indirect prevention
Protection of the healthy subject: vaccine prophylaxis; passive immunoprophylaxis; chemoprophylaxis.Problems related to care-related infections will also be addressed

Epidemiology of infectious diseases:
host parasite relationship, sources and reservoirs of infection, mode of transmission, mode of appearance of infectious diseases in the population.
Preventive intervention levels: Primary, secondary and tertiary prevention.
Prophylaxis of infectious diseases: notification, diagnostic assessment, isolation, cleaning, disinfection, antisepsis, sterilization, pest control, vaccine prophylaxis,
passive immunoprophylaxis, chemoprophylaxis. Infections related to care

Teaching methods

The course will be held through lectures to Students either in the classroom (“in presenza”) or in synchronous-streaming (“in telepresenza”) on the Teams platform. Therefore, the opportunity of Student/Teacher interaction will be preserved both face to face and remotely, by the simultaneous use of the Teams platform.
Lectures will be supported by slide presentations, which will be available to students on the Elly platform (https://elly.medicina.unipr.it).

Assessment methods and criteria

The verification of the learning related to this module will be included in the oral exam of the integrated course "Hygeine, Public health and health policies" (V year of course).
