Learning objectives

Knowledge and understanding:
The aim of the course is to consolidate the fundamental skills for performing a correct and complete interpretation of the built context, in order to intervene in case of building reuse and requalification, in order to carry out a comprehensive and articulated technological analysis, aimed at evaluating the most suitable and sustainable methods of transformation and technological adjustment.

Skills:
The ability to choose and correctly use building technologies and materials, getting the analytical reading of the needs for energy and environmental reuse, as well as the ability to identify innovative intervention strategies will be acquired.

Judgment autonomy:
At the end of the course, the student should have developed the ability to critically evaluate which traditional or innovative tools and technologies are the most suitable in the reuse and restoration project, aimed at evaluating the elements of sustainability in the transformation processes.

Communication skills:
Students will develop the ability to describe, communicate and represent the building envelope in all its components at different scales, through the use of the most appropriate methods and tools, which will be illustrated during the lessons.
Learning ability:
Different lessons are intended to support the student in the correct using of critical analysis methods in case of reuse and requalification projects, as well as in helping students in identifying different building envelope elements that make up the building space and the space that defines it: the student should have acquired the knowledge and skills to face, in the future, an in-depth and autonomous application of these aspects.

Prerequisites

Course unit content

The class focuses on the complex issue of the relationship between new technologies and formal language in the case of reuse and redevelopment of existing buildings, with particular attention to the application of new materials and to new housing requisites, energy and performance needs.
Particular attention will be paid to the role played by innovative technologies for architecture and reuse, with the aim of pursuing the highest improvement in the relationship between architecture and the existing environment.

Full programme

The extended program and the extended bibliography will be made available during the lessons.
