Learning objectives
Students will have to learn the preventive and therapeutic effect of physical exercise in different types of diseases, and be confident with the modality of prescription in different clinical situations.
Prerequisites
Knowledge of physiopathology, semeiotics and clinical methodology.
Course unit content
Sports medicine: an overview with particular focus on the therapeutic role of physical exercise.
-Physical exercise as prevention and therapy of the main clinical syndromes in internal medicine. The physical exercise prescription in internal medicine. Overview of the "lifestyle" concept and interventions to promote its modification.

Exercise as therapy and prevention. Effects of exercise and training on the main organs and systems. Inactivity and its effects on health.
The “lifestyle” concept. Interventions aimed at modifying lifestyle.
Cardiovascular disease: exercise as prevention and treatment.
Sport-therapy prescription in internal medicine, with particular focus on the main chronic diseases: hypertension, diabetes (type 1 and 2), dyslipidemia, obesity, metabolic syndrome, malignant cancer. Smoke and physical exercise.
