Learning objectives

Knowledge and understanding
At the end of the course the student will acquire the basic knowledge relating to the different type of materials in order to be able to correctly study the production technologies.

Applying knowledge and understanding
The student will be able to make proper choices in material selection for a specif application. The students will be able to use the acquired knowledge to analyze and process numerical data to support their decision-making.

Making judgements
On passing the exam the student will develop the ability to critically evaluate the analytical data of the mechanical behavior of a packaging material to predict its behavior in work, as well as the ability to interpret the data of the controls.

Communication skills
On passing the exam the student should acquire sufficient language property, at least as regards the technical terminology specific of the course.

Learning skills
Students who take the course will be able to deepen their knowledge in the field of materials by consulting on their own specialized texts or dissemination journals, even outside of the topics covered closely in class.

Assessment methods and criteria

The final exam will be organized as follow:
- a written test in order to verify the ability of students to apply what they studied in numerical problems;
- an oral test in order to verify the capacity of correlate the basic knowledge in order to understand the properties and the characteristic of the different classes of studied materials.

Written examination consists of 5 exercises/questions to each of which are assigned up to 6 points.
Students who gained at least 21/30 in the written examination may apply to take an oral supplementation or verbalize the mark of the written test.
Students who gained 18, 19 and 20/30 in the written examination have to take an oral supplementation.
