Learning objectives

The course of "speech therapy in disorders of swallowing oral functions", is part of the Teaching or Integrated course of phono-Speech
The course aims to enable the student to know and to understand the essential elements of etiology, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of major pathological conditions of interest speech therapy, also in order to allow the student the ability to use knowledge and understanding acquired in identifying the patient's problems related to the condition of the person suffering from the disease of interest and speech therapy to prepare a proper treatment plan.

Course unit content

The first lessons cover topics of a general nature which hints anatomical, physiological swallowing the newborn, and adult transition.
The second part of the course is devoted to the discussion of the basic elements of etiology, type of atypical swallowing, comparative analysis of atypical swallowing, facial classification types.
The third part of the course deals with the general symptomatology, diagnosis of atypical swallowing, my functional treatment.

Teaching methods

Class lessons: the program themes will be discussed with the aid of slides. The proposed topics will be the subject of collective discussion and study on the basis of ideas and any questions raised during the lessons themselves.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of the achievement of the objectives of the course consists of a written examination. Through questions about the contents of the course will be determined whether the student has achieved the goal of knowledge and understanding of the content. Through questions regarding prevention strategies and preparation of a care plan will be determined whether the student has achieved the aim of applying the acquired knowledge
