Learning objectives


The student will be able to: prescribe physical activity instructions appropriate to main non communicable diseases and disability prevention, and to healthy aging; recommend and prescribe physical exercise suitable to clinical, functional, and social context of his patients as primary and tertiary prevention, care, and rehabilitation.; illustrate the pathophysiological bases and recognize the clinical features of the most common dysmetabolic conditions

Course unit content


Exercise based interventions for optimal psychophysical grow and best health, fitness, wellness, and quality of life conservation. How physical activity works as central position in health promotion. Key pathophysiologic and clinical elements of the main dysmetabolic conditions (diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemias)

Physical exercise induced adjustments and adaptations: positive effects in healthy subjects, and for main non communicable diseases prevention (cardiovascular diseases, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, metabolic syndrome, tumors, aging). Sedentary and well-being diseases. Physical exercise prescription (type, intensity, duration, frequency) for clinical purpose (sport therapy) and how accurately administer it. Pathophysiolocial bases and clinical elements of diet prescriptions. Therapeutic lifestyle changes: theory and practice. Etiology, pathophysiology and clinical features of the most common dysmetabolic conditions (diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemias)
