Learning objectives

Recognize, through the alphabet of elementary lesions, the most common dermatological diseases and acquire latest diagnostic/instrumental methods to achieve the best therapeutic choice

Course unit content

bacterial skin infections (impetigo, exfoliative stafilodermia, whitlow, erysipelas, erythrasma, superficial and deep folliculitis, furuncle, honeycomb), and therapy.
Normal and pathological wound healing.
Parasitic disease: pediculosis and scabies.
Diseases caused by fungi: pityriasis versicolor, candidiasis, dermatomycoses.
Skin ulcer therapy
Skin biopsy.
ingrown toenails
Pathology of the sweat glands, with particular reference to the treatment of hyperhidrosis

Full programme

Macroscopic, microscopic and physiological skin features. Clinical-diagnostic approach to the dermatologic patient. Elementary skin lesions. Itching and diseases related to it. Parasitic diseases: acariasis and pediculosis. Erythematous desquamative diseases: psoriasis, seborrheic dermatitis, pityriasis rosea. Lichen planus, alopecia areata, vitiligo. Acne, alopecia, rosacea. Contact dermatitis (professional or not). Bacterial diseases: impetigo, erysipelas, folliculitis. Diseases caused by viruses: herpes simplex, herpes zoster, molluscum contagiosum, HPV infections. Diseases caused by fungi: pityriasis versicolor, candidiasis, dermatophytosis. Non-tumoral pathology of the sweat glands. Melanocytic pathology: nevi and melanoma. Benign neoplasms, precancerous lesions, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. Ulcers. Dermatologic therapy (topical, physical and surgical)
