Learning objectives

The purpose of the course is to consolidate theoretical knowledge in the field of translations and give students the chance to practically apply such knowledge to various types of texts.

Prerequisites

Level of knowledge of English enabling students to follow the lectures without any difficulty (level C1 of the Common European Reference Framework).

Course unit content

<p>The course aims to provide an introduction to the translation problems presented by various types of text. <br />
Consequently, various types of documents will be analysed during the course, both in their original language and their translation. <br />
In addition, issues related to literary texts will be contemplated, with a view to examining more closely issues relating to film versions of the same texts, focusing specifically on the translation of subtitles. <br />

Teaching methods

Classroom and seminar lectures, during which the students will be able to work under teacher supervision. <br />
The exam will consist of a written part (English-Italian and Italian-English translation plus comment on translation choices made) and an oral exam. <br />
