Learning objectives

The course is aimed at teaching knowledge and understanding of the basics of regenerative medicine applied to domestic animals.The student will also learn to apply the acquired knowledge and understanding in veterinary clinical cases where cell-based therapy can contribute to improve tissue healing.

Course unit content

Mesenchymal stem cells: biology and differentiation potential, phenotypic and molecular characterization. Methods for isolation and in vitro expansion.
Platelet derivatives: role of platelets in tissue regeneration. Definition and preparation of platelet concentrates.
Regenerative therapy in veterinary medicine. Description and critical discussion of clinical applications reported by the scientific literature, focusing on the role of mesenchymal stem cells and platelet concentrates in the therapy of musculoskeletal pathologies and soft tissue regeneration.
