Integrated course unit module: LOGIC AND HISTORY OF LOGIC (INTEGRATED)

Learning objectives

The course objective is an acquisition of knowledge of the historical development of the theory of meaning, and of historiographical methodologies to be applied in the analysis of the texts (particularly those of antiquity and medieval).

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites. It is however useful to have a rudimentary knowledge of the logic of propositions and of the calculus of first order.

Course unit content

Various theoretical positions on the issue of meaning from late antiquity to those of modern times will be considered. On the one hand we will work on highlighting the relationship between theory of meaning and syntactic analysis, and on the other hand, those between linguistic analyses and ontological commitment.
