Internships

The University of Parma promotes curricular internships in order to facilitate professional choices through direct knowledge of the world of work and the realisation of moments of alternation between study and work.
The curricular internship integrates and completes the student's training pathway through the performance of practical activities which, in accordance with the provisions of the Teaching Regulations of their course of study, may be carried out in facilities within the University or externally at qualified public and private organisations with which the University has entered into appropriate agreements.
The internship involves three subjects: the student, the promoter (the University of Parma) and the host (company or organisation) where the activity is carried out under the guidance of a university tutor, a University professor/instructor and a company tutor.
The curricular internship does not constitute a prerequisite for an employment relationship between the trainee and the host structure, nor can it be a substitute for company labour or professional services.

Procedures for curricular Internship

Students on the Philosophy Course have 6 ECTS credits in their Programme of Study to devote to internship activity (corresponding to 150 hours).
Students enrolled in the cohorts prior to a.y. 2018/19 have 3 ECTS credits in their Programme of Study to devote to internship activity (corresponding to 75 hours).
Students are invited to read the Philosophy Course Internship Regulations.
Please note that the internship activity is compulsory and cannot be replaced by an examination or seminars.

Procedure for the activation of internships

The start and conclusion of curricular internships takes place entirely online via the ESSE3 application, which can be accessed by all the actors involved, i.e. the student, the host company and the academic tutor, each using their own credentials.
Students can find all information and a guide for the activation/conclusion of the internship at https://www.unipr.it/tirocini-curriculari-online or by using the following links directly:

Indication of the main steps of the internship activation-conclusion procedure:

  1. Choosing the organisation where the internship will take place The student may contact an organisation of his or her choice, and wait for the company contact person to enter the Training Project they have agreed on into ESSE3. Alternatively, the student can apply for open opportunities already posted by companies on ESSE3. At this stage, the student can enquire and consult with the academic tutor on site. The tutor-teachers to be contacted in order to start the internship in their respective campuses are:
University of Parma:   prof. Gemmo Iocco
University of Modena: prof. Giacomo Scarpelli
University of Ferrara:  prof. Andrea Gatti
  2. Choice of Academic Tutor and Confirmation of Training Project by the Student (in ESSE3) Once the academic tutor and the Internship Office have approved the internship in ESSE3, the internship activity can begin. During the placement, the student will record the hours completed using the appropriate form (Modulo A).
  3. Closing of the internship
The closing of the procedure (final approval by the academic tutor, and enrolment of ECTS credits) takes place exclusively online. The student and the business tutor both complete their own questionnaire proposed by the system. Students are also required to attach scanned attendance sheets (Form A) and their final report prepared in accordance with the instructions below to the ESSE3 platform.

Instructions for the final report
The final report (one or two pages long) must contain: details of the student and an indication of the period of the placement; a brief description of the establishment where the activity took place; description, analysis and evaluation of the experience carried out.

Internship abroad

Students are reminded of the opportunity to carry out their internship in a European country (taking advantage of a scholarship linked to the Erasmus Plus SMT call) or a non-European country (taking advantage of a scholarship linked to the Overworld call).
For information and activation procedures, please consult the website dedicated to "The Erasmus Plus Programme". Interested students must plan this type of internship as early as their first year by applying for the call for applications, in order to be able to do it in their second year. Contact the tutor for internships abroad (Prof. Italo Testa) and the International Mobility Committee of the Department of Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Enterprises.

Recognition of external activity already carried out

In some cases, the internship may be replaced by internship-like experiences already carried out by the student independently (e.g. community service). Recognition will be possible if these activities meet the following conditions: carried out during the years of enrolment at the university; content consistent with the teaching profile of the degree course; commitment for a minimum number of hours (150 hours), equal to 6 ECTS credits.
To this end, the student must: submit a request form for validation of the activity carried out (Modulo B); submit adequate documentation attesting to the activity carried out; submit an accurate report describing the activities carried out and showing their congruence with the above-mentioned conditions.
This documentation, handed over to the University Tutor, will be assessed by the Course Council.
