The first part of the course will illustrate the main stages and the various currents of contemporary Haitian literature from the time of independence until the eighties, aiming to highlight contemporary literary production, the importance of religious syncretism in a society born of the slave system.
The second part of the course aims to show how the Haitian novel in French, of the fifties, is involved in the mise-en-scène of voodoo, and how, according to the different representations, the French-speaking Haitian writers have contributed to the transmission of Haitian religious memory but also to the representation of a multi-faceted society.
