Learning objectives

<br />This course aims to provide the students with the fundamental principles of computer functioning both the hardware than the software moiety. This should enables an uniform cultural upgrading of a population quite heterogeneous with regard to computer knowledge; moreover, the course aims to supply the cultural skills to better understand the subjects of more advanced course and the utilization of the programs and database available in the University area as well.

<br />Introduction to Informatics: the computer, OS, the binary system, outlines on some languages for computer, data transfer.<br />Text elaboration: characteristics, MS-Word, guide to use and examples.<br />Presentations. Use of programs for an effective presentation of data.<br />Archives. Characteristics of a database, FileMaker, guide to use and examples.<br />Managing large amounts of numbers: the electronic sheet, MS-Excell. Generation of scientific plots, guide to use and examples.<br />Internet: telnet, FTP, browsers and their use, providers of e-mail and their use.
