Learning objectives

Aim of the course is the deepening of some topics about the modern organic chemistry with particular attention on stereoselective synthetic methodologies of polifunctional compounds.

Prerequisites

The examination of "Organic Chemistry I" must be passed before that of "Organic Chemistry II".

Course unit content
General aspects
Deepening of topics about the structure and reactivity of organic compounds. Particular relevance will be pointed on the stereochemical aspects of organic compounds and on selectivity of the reaction pathways.
Carbon-carbon bond forming reactions, functional groups formation and handling, protection and deprotection in complex systems.
Methodologies for the synthesis of chiral non-racemic molecules. Asymmetric synthesis and stereochemical forecast of suitable targets. Total synthesis strategies, retrosynthetic analysis of targets and possible disconnections.
Monographic Part
Biomolecules and natural organic substances: amino acids, peptides and proteins. Monosaccharides and oligosaccharides. Nucleosides and nucleotides.
Heterocycle compounds. Nomenclature, structure and reactivity of pentaatomic and esaatomic aromatic eterocycles.

Teaching methods
This course is carried out through oral lessons.
The final examination consists of a written exam in which the student will have to solve and comment synthetic exercises with particular attention on the reaction mechanisms and the stereochemical aspects.
