Learning objectives

1. Knowledge and understanding:
• To know and understand the principles regulating the interactions of drugs with the body and the fundamental aspects connected with the use of some drugs of more specific interest, with particular reference to the classes most frequently used in motor and sports environments.
• Acquire the ability to use the specific language of the discipline
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
• use the acquired knowledge and the understanding to propose the use of certain classes of drugs for the treatment of specific pathologies.
3. Independent judgment:
• correctly and critically interpret the biological and undesirable effects of the drugs considered
4. Learning ability:
• Develop skills and methodologies that allow to study in a highly autonomous way

5. Communication skills
• possess the ability to synthesize information and communicate it effectively and with the appropriate language

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of human anatomy and physiology

Course unit content

The first part of the course concerns the principles regulating the interactions of drugs with the body, from the point of view of both pharmacokinetics and its phases (absorption, metabolism, distribution and elimination) and pharmacodynamics (mechanism of action). The second part deals with the knowledge of the fundamental aspects associated with the use of specific drugs, with particular reference to some of the classes most frequently used in motor and sports environments.

Teaching methods

The teaching is carried out through class lectures. If the pandemic emergency persist, the lectures, as far as possible, will be held in the classroom in the presence of a limited number of students but will also be accessible remotely in synchronous mode (streaming on the Teams platform)
The slides and the videos used to support the lessons, considered an integral part of the teaching material, will be uploaded on a weekly basis on the Elly platform

Assessment methods and criteria

The verification of the achievement of the objectives set by the course takes place through a WRITTEN EXAM with single-answer questions. The exam also includes the questions of all the parts of the integrated course of Laboratory in Sport. The questions of Pharmacology will be 7 out of 31. Correct answer: 1 point. Wrong answer or not given: 0 points.
If it should be necessary to take the exams remotely, an oral exam will be conducted using the Teams platform. The final evaluation is communicated immediately at the end of the test and averaged with that obtained in the other modules of the Course of Diagnostics Applied to Motor Sciences

Rating scale: 0-30
