Learning objectives
The teaching aims to provide the historical and conceptual knowledge to understand the role of the philosopher in society and his function as a shaper of shared ideals, models of conception of history, definition of public knowledge. Within this framework, the concept of enlightenment and the function of the concept of public within it will have specific importance; we will also focus on the meaning of second nature the definition of the relationship between culture and nature, the concept of progress.

Basic knowledge of the history of modern philosophy
Course unit content
The course illustrates the self-understanding of the philosophy and the role of the intellectual, from the Enlightenment to the contemporary age, and how this definition has helped transform society.
The project of the French "Philosophes" and the concept of the Enlightenment in Germany, particularly in I. Kant and J. G. Fichte. The critique of the Enlightenment in the philosophies of the 20th century, particularly by the Frankfurt School and in Michel Foucault.

Teaching methods
The course is structured in face-to-face theoretical lectures for 3 CFUs and in telematic lectures for 3 CFUs, both in didactic delivery (video lectures) and interactive teaching (assignments, glossaries and forums). During the course, the lecturer periodically offers opportunities for content review.
Assessment methods and criteria
The examination consists of an oral test in which the student must demonstrate knowledge of the themes and authors covered, as well as their historical environment from a thorough knowledge of the texts read and commented on in class. The oral test may be accompanied by a written paper. In any case, participation in the interactive teaching activities of the course will also be evaluated.
