Learning objectives

The course aims to make students capable of independently developing a critical essay or review for publication in a literary magazine. As such, part of the course is devoted to the teaching of writing such essays.

Prerequisites

To take the course a basic knowledge of Italian literature is required.

Course unit content

Course title: Saggistica odeporica: i viaggi in Oriente di alcuni scrittori-giornalisti
The course, having dealt with the treatment of non-fiction as a literary genre, particularly with regard to its various types and forms of communication, will cover travel reportage, with reference to texts and authors of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Part of the course will be devoted to teaching how to write essays, and before the oral examination, each student will write a critical essay or review of between 6000 - 10,000 words.
The possible topics, from which the student will select his own title, will be agreed upon with the lecturer of the course. Entries must be handed in (either in paper or digital format, or by e-mail) at least 7 days before the examination, during which we will discuss and evaluate them, and this evaluation will form an average mark with the oral examination.
