Learning objectives

To offer them the theoretical tools to understand the methods and choices involved in film transposition, or the intersemiotic translation from a literary text into a film.

Course unit content

At the beginning of the course students will be introduced to the main trends in contemporary translation studies, in order to allow them to reflect upon the equivalence, empasses, and translation losses which characterize any translation process. Then most of the course will be devoted to the study of intersemiotic translation, in particular the transposition from novel into film.
