Learning objectives
The goal of the course is to provide students with a basic knowledge of the theoretical principles and practical applications regarding analytical techniques utilised in the quality control of officinal plants and their derivatives.
Prerequisites
The Drug Analysis / Laboratory for Mining Preparation exam must be preceded by the exams of Organic Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry / Phytochemistry.
Course unit content
Oral lessons and experimental part with laboratory work regarding:
• Safety and injury prevention issues: general norms for laboratory procedures
• Chemical products and analytical techniques
• Pharmacopeias
• Qualitative and quantitative analysis of officinal plants and their derivatives by means of chemical and instrumental methods

Assessment methods and criteria
The final oral exam focuses on all of the topics included in the course syllabus. The student must demonstrate that he/she has understood the fundamental concepts for each topic and that he/she is able to apply them.
