Metaphysics of the Enlightenment: Voltaire
This critical remark notwithstanding, the first part of Voltaire’s Élements de la philosophie de Newton bears evidence of his acquaintance with the different metaphysical doctrines discussed at his age. In his Traité de metaphisique, dedicated to M.me de Chatelet and published after his death, Voltaire takles with the traditional topics of metaphysics, such as the immortality of the soul and the origins of human knowledge and moral convictions.
