Learning objectives
During the lessons, students will have the opportunity to strenghten their L2 performance and linguistic knowledge, even about non standard french varieties; they learn and improve translation techniques. Furthermore, they acquire the critical and technical tools useful to detect and solve translation problems in diatopic french varieties texts.

Course unit content
This cours aims to deal with francophone varieties translation through audiovisual and francophone litteral texts, and to improve L2 competence thanks to litteral translation from italian into franch language. It will be discussed, from a traductological point of view, texts exploiting french dyatopic varieties as identitary flags in a specific francophone community. We take into consideration different translation techniques from the theoretical and the practical point of view. Furthermore, texts are the starting point to sketch out francophony; moreover, they represent also the pretext to give an overview about specific francophone dictionaries and lexics, essentials to translators.

Teaching methods
During lectures, we discuss about general problems linked to french diatopic varieties from the linguistic an sociolinguistic point of view; we underline their effect on litterature, then the possible translation techniques into italian will be pointed out. Thus, text diatopically marked and their translations are treated.
Moreover, a critical correction to translation from italian into french is shown in order to improve L2 competence. Individual exercises in language laboratory is essential.
Students are invited to present a personal comment about a francophone text translation in class, in this way they have the opportunity to argue indipendently about real practical translation problems and to exploit francophone specific dictionaries. During this activity, student can practically realize solutions of theoretical problems shown in class.
Assessment methods and criteria
Written exam consists in a translation of an italian litterary text into french. During the oral exam, students discribe two francophone texts with their italian translation and texts commented in class.
During the exposition, after a short contestualisation, they do critical comments about: translation problems tied to the text; helpful tools to use to translate them; possible translation techniques.
To evalue students we take into consideration the grammatical correctness, the communicative efficacy, the contextual adequacy and the linguistic apporpriateness in the L2. During the oral exam we appreciate the ability to deal with a translation problem, to autonomously develop a critical comment and to find the appropriate solution using concept illustrated during the class.
