Learning objectives

Students need learn the fundaments of in vitro cell culture.
Students must use techniques for the preparation of sterile materials , culture medium, and all stuff for the in vitro growth of a cell culture.
Making judgments
Ability to reason about the cell culture-specific additive for different cell culture protocols. Discussion of material methods of scientific article of an international journal and/or PhD-thesis

Prerequisites

fundaments of cell biology

Course unit content

In the context of the integrated course, the course is proposed to supply
to the students general concepts on setting up cell cultures

Full programme

The cells in vitro.
Basic techniques of in vitro cell cultures.
Preparation of sterile materials and culture medium.
Trypsinization and propagation of cultures.
Freezing and thawing

Bibliography

Teaching methods

The course includes an initial portion during which the teacher will illustrate the techniques for the preparation of cell cultures. Most of the course will then be held directly in the laboratory, where the student will be taught to work under sterile conditions in laminar flow hoods, and use cells in culture

Assessment methods and criteria

End-of-term evaluation and continuous assessment. Written examination by a multiple (four) choice tests.
4 questions on the elements and protocols for in vitro cell culture. Students must answer correctly at least to 2 questions.
