Learning objectives
The course provides basic knowledge on: 1. microeconomics, 2. agri-food economics, 3. national and international legislation on GMOs. At the end of the lectures, students will be able to interpret the GMOs topic within the socio economic context.

Course unit content
The first part of the course aims at providing the students with the principles of micro economics.
The second part analyses the Italian agri-food system in the context of the European Agricultural Policy and World Trade Organization. The legislative ground and the economic issues on biotechnologies are then studied.
In the third part the basics of economics and production management are considered.

Teaching methods
The first part of the course consists of lectures. The second part provides exercises that allow students to test knowledge acquired in the first part.
Assessment methods and criteria
Written and / or oral examination.
Knowledge and understanding will be assessed with open-ended questions, in a number depending on the contents. Same rank to each question.
Applying knowledge and understanding will be assessed by asking the student with the interpretation of empirical evidences, data, etc.
The ability to communicate with technical language will be assessed by verifying the appropriate language used by the student.
