The increasing challenges related to environmental protection and land management requireprofessionals with strong interdisciplinary and cross-sector skills. In this context, environmental engineers are able to understand the issues arising from human-environment interactions and the best ways to mitigate related risks.
The Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering for Risk Mitigation aims to train highly qualified professionals in environmental engineering, with a particular focus on the prevention, management, and mitigation of natural and human-induced risks.
Students will develop multidisciplinary expertise, covering topics such as environmental risk assessment, land monitoring and surveying, and climate change adaptation strategies.
In addition to core engineering subjects, they will gain knowledge in chemistry, geology, biology, and environmental legislation. The program also offers opportunities to study abroad, often utilized for thesis research, through deep-rooted exchange agreements with foreign universities.

Environmental engineers find employment in both public and private sectors. They are sought by environmental protection agencies, entities involved in the design and construction of engineering works, environmental and geotechnical monitoring systems, hydrogeological risk mitigation, and water resource management. They also find positions within Civil Protection Agencies and Local Authorities dealing with environmental matters.
Additional employment sectors include those focused on atmospheric and climate changes studies and applications, sustainable use of natural energy sources, management of distribution networks, waste treatment plants, assessment of environmental impact and compatibility of development plans and projects. They are frequently employed in engineering firms, design companies, and businesses involved in projects of territorial defense and remediation.
AlmaLaurea data (from the last ten years) show a near 100% employment rates within 6 months from graduation, testifying the distinguished cross-disciplinary nature and versatility of this profession, as well as its strong demand in the job market.
