Learning objectives

The educational goal of the course is to provide to the students the theoretical and practical fundamentals of the correct use of instruments for the measurement of physical sizes. In particular, the course will focus on instruments for the measurement of electric and optical sizes.
Part of the course consists of practice in the lab where the students are learning how to measure signals.

The measurement process. Overview of errors, probability theory and statistics.

General characteristics of the main instruments for the measurement of electric sizes.

Instruments for AC and DC electric measurements. Use of analogic and digital multimeters.

Experimental validation of Ohm's laws.

Instruments for detection and measurement of different sizes through electric signals.

Optical instruments for spectrometry and photometry.

Laser.

Principles and laws for safety and personal protection.

Notes on illumination technology.
