Course unit content

This course will present some advanced topics of developmental psychology, with a particolar attention to the theories and practice of classroom discorse and to the context of communities for children at risk.

Full programme

The corse will discuss the issue of the interconnections between human biological processes, interactive forms and the cultural systems that give meanings to educational practices. The course is divided in three parts. In the first part, different perspectives to the study of individual, social, and cultural development will be presented. Particolar attention will be devoted to the basic fundamental principles that are apt to grasp the links between individual development and socio-cultural processes. Empirical studies concerning poverty, mass media and ethics will be presented.
In the second part of the course, the context of communities for children at risk will be presented, and several results of studies conducted on this topic will be discussed. The third part will focus on schools, and will touch in particolar the issues of classroom discorse, teacher-pupils relations, and peer cultures.
