Learning objectives

The course aims to examine the development of the legislative framework concerning the protection and valorisation of cultural heritage, from states prior to unification through to the most recent legislation introduced with the Codice dei beni culturali (Cultural heritage code) in 2004. <br />
All aspects regarding the system of administration for cultural heritage and the functions of protection, management and valorisation of cultural heritage will be analysed. <br />
Particular attention will also be given to the division of legislative and administrative functions between the state and the regions in the area of cultural heritage, with specific reference to the amendments to Title V of the Constitution introduced by Constitutional Law no. 3/2001. <br />
The course will also take into consideration a number of aspects of environmental heritage protection and valorisation. Finally it will analyse international legislation for the protection of cultural heritage. <br />

Course unit content

<p>Module A (5 learning credits) is dedicated to an examination of the division of legislative and administrative functions between the state and the regions, with particular reference to the amendments to Title V of Constitution introduced by Constitutional Law no. 3/2001. <br />
Module B (5 learning credits) comprises an analysis of all aspects of legal codes governing the cultural heritage system and the guardianship, management and valorisation of cultural heritage. Further detailed consideration will be dedicated to the topics of protection and valorisation of environmental heritage and international legislation for the protection of cultural heritage. <br />
