Learning objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with the scientific and cultural foundations that will enable them to understand and manage the complexity of the social and economic development of the local area, in an integrated way that is compatible with protection of the environment and the enhancement of the specific historical and cultural local features which constitute the cornerstone of the competitiveness and attractiveness of the local area.

Course unit content

The course is divided into two parts. The aim of the first part is to provide students with the skills that will enable them to understand and manage the complexity of the social and economic development of the local area, in an integrated way that is compatible with protection of the environment and the enhancement of the specific historical and cultural local features which constitute the cornerstone of the competitiveness and attractiveness of the local area. The second part of the course will provide a theoretical approach, with examples, to models of public intervention aimed at developing urban planning policies, with particular reference to the structure and transformation of contemporary cities in Italy and the world.
