A good understanding of concepts currently used to describe the metal-ligand interactions in metallorganic compounds employed as catalysts.

Course unit content
<br />The nature of the metal-carbon (M-C) bond and factors which contribute to its stability. The classification of organic ligands. Hydrides. Main-group metallorganic compounds containing: Li, Na, Mg, B, Al, Si, Sn, P. Metal based compounds of d- and f-block. Principles of orbital interaction, electron counting, and fragment molecular orbital method. Correlation theory-experiment: spectroscopic measurements, magnetic measurements, and chiroptical measurements.
