Learning objectives

The present teaching module aims to provide students with the fundamentals of criminal procedure to enable them to understand and critically analyse the instruments of criminal procedural law protecting the victim of violence against women.
At the end of the lecture cycle, students are expected to be able to know:
- the function, structure and subjects of criminal proceedings, as well as the relevant constitutional and international rules
- international sources and the rules of the Italian Code of Criminal Procedure to fight violence against women

Course unit content

The present teaching module focuses on:
- the structure and function of criminal proceedings, in the light of the relevant constitutional and international rules;
- the subjects of criminal proceedings, focusing on the role of the crime victim;
- international sources protecting the victim of violence against women, on the one hand, and the fundamental guarantees of the accused, on the other;
- the legal instruments to combat violence against women and to protect the victim in criminal proceedings, focusing on the issues.

Teaching methods

Classroom teaching, during which it is intended to encourage class discussion on the issues addressed and the legal cases analysed.

Assessment methods and criteria

The exam is unique for all modules, is written and consists of a multiple-choice test related to the topics covered in all modules.
The test consists of thirty questions and each question corresponds to one point.
For each question only one answer is correct.
The student must answer all the questions.
Each student has one hour to complete the test. For Erasmus and special needs students, the duration of the test will be one hour and twenty minutes.
