Learning objectives
This module completes the educational activities devoted to digital circuits and systems. It deals with design techniques and related CAD tools. Students are required to develop a relatively complex design, with reference to widely diffused industrial technologies.

Implementation styles: ASIC, FPGA, MPGA, ROM/PLA.<br />

Typical design flow for a complex digital system.<br />

Design and verification CAD tools.<br />

Scaling of CMOS integrated circuits: theories, limits and perspectives. ITRS roadmap.<br />

CMOS low-power design issues.<br />
<br />
Static power: junction-leakage currents, gate-leakage currents, subthreshold currents. Technological and architectural solutions to reduce static power consumption.<br />
<br />
Dynamic power: statistic evaluation of dynamic power consumption, activity rates. Circuit solution to reduce dynamic power consumption.
