Learning objectives

The course is aimed at providing tools and interpretative concepts useful to deepen the concept of health, meant as well-being.
In the first part of the course, through the analysis of the most recent contributions in psychology, we will explore the development of the approach to health and disease as an " overall well-being of the person in a socio-ecological context".
In the second part, the course is aimed at analyzing the person's active role, not only in the maintenance or re-establishment of the health, but also in the (individual and collective) efforts for the improvement through the intervention on themselves and on the living environment, by analyzing behaviors and lifestyles. It also introduces the main explanatory models of health (subjective well-being, social well-being, of Ryff welfare model, the optimal operation model).
The second series of lectures will be dedicated to deepen the process of achieving the well-being through the implementation of strategies to face up to the threats to health (coping), the building of skills and activation of personal and social resources.
The third series of lectures will investigate the relationship between emotions and physical conditions, with particular attention to the management of emotions as a key component of effective adaptation to the disease.
