Integrated course unit module: SPECIAL SEMEIOTICS

Learning objectives

At the end of the course, the student must be able to:
- know and understand the path of evaluation and speech therapy in pre-verbal onset hearing loss and acquired.
- know how to plan a specific evaluation in the diagnostic path in developmental age and in the selection path to the cochlear implant in the pre-verbal and post-verbal hearing loss.
- know how to administer perceptual-verbal evaluation tests by speaker, calculate the communication profile, know international evaluation scales in pediatric age; know how to apply the method of speech tracking.
- know how to design an appropriate treatment plan in terms of timing and effectiveness and efficiency of the intervention.
The student must also acquire a specific language that makes him able to compare him with other professionals

Course unit content

This teaching module aims to provide a framing of deafness in both pediatric and adult age. Knowledge will be transmitted on:
- the evaluation protocols
Therapeutic approaches
the treatment and follow-up guidelines
monitoring of communicative-linguistic skills
treatment in complex cases
The communicative-linguistic and perceptual indicators will be explored useful for the selection of the hearing impaired patient.

Teaching methods

The didactic method used makes use of lectures carried out in presence, supplemented by practical exercises and viewing videos on clinical cases in evaluation and treatment. Active learning will be supported by dialogical discussion, individual discussions and reflections and/or activities in a small group.

Assessment methods and criteria

The learning verification will take place with oral and/or written test in presence, subject to agreement with students.
The judgment will assess the quality and level of knowledge and understanding of the course contents and the ability to apply the acquired knowledge to professional practice. The judgment will also evaluate the quality of participation in the lessons by the student.
