Learning objectives

The Bachelor of Technical Sciences Applied Medical is part of the integrated course of Audio-prothesis 1 and aims to enable the student to know and understand the basic elements of pure tone threshold, liminal and supraliminal. The student must acquire the ability to use knowledge and understanding in formulating a correct interpretation of audiology, or to classify the hearing loss and cochlear and retrocochlear differentiate them in integrating the responses.

Course unit content

The oral course, will consider the basis of acustics, ear physiology, organ of Corti and vestibular as well as neuronal electrophysiology and genesis of clinical auditory evoked potentials.

The practical course involves attendance at the Laboratory of the Department of Audio-vestibular University of Parma, where students become familiar with all the most modern equipment for the study of auditory function subjective . The liminal tonal audiometry is the first part of the training, which is essential for the classification of hearing loss. The research methods of the auditory threshold, masking the contralateral ear and proof of Weber are an integral part of the audiometric test. The techniques of tonal audiometry supraliminal are essential for understanding the recruitment and auditory fatigue (Fowler, SISI, Luscher, Carhart).

Teaching methods

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly) and will include slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recording of the lectures.

Practical lessons on the field. The student, with the supervision of a tutor and with the necessary prerequisites, familiarize yourself first with the audiological instrumentation in order to know and comprederne its functionality and purpose. Gained sufficient autonomy executive, the student learns the ability to correctly classify the hearing loss; Furthermore, within the neurosensory deafness, the student is able to differentiate the cochlear from retrocochlear lesions.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination. The student must demonstrate that they have learned the techniques of pure tone threshold In the application of knowledge and compression methods should be able, in the face of a simulation instrumental to interpret with sufficient accuracy as proposed.
In case of the persistence of the health emergency, the exams will be conducted remotely, as follows:
remote oral questions, through the Teams platform (guide http://selma.unipr.it/).
Students with SLD / BSE must first contact Le Eli-che: support for students with disabilities, D.S.A., B.E.S. (https://sea.unipr.it/it/servizi/le-eli-che-supporto-studenti-con-disabilita-dsa-bes)
