The Audiology Course is part of the Integrated Course of Speech Therapy and aims to allow the student to know and understand the essential elements of clinical and instrumental diagnosis in the field of audio-vestibular pathologies. The first lessons are aimed at deepening the clinical and instrumental semiotics of the auditory apparatus and the vestibular apparatus. Therefore, the classification of the hypoacusies and the differential diagnosis of deafness are specified, through instrumental audiological diagnostics. Then, some otological diseases are explored, such as otosclerosis and acute and chronic inflammation of the middle ear (otitis, chronic otitis media, cholesteatoma). The second part of the course includes the study of vestibular symptoms and differential diagnosis in balance disorders (clinical and instrumental vestibular examination).

Teaching methods

The oral lessons provide for the presentation in video-projection of the contents with the help of filmed documentation of particular clinical and instrumental aspects of semeiology. The last minutes of the lesson are reserved for students' questions of clarification. Discussion of emblematic clinical cases is expected.

Assessment methods and criteria

The assessment of learning and acquired knowledge takes place during the calls provided by the teaching calendar, by means of an oral question, in the presence of the Committee of Teachers of the Integrated Course. The student must be able to demonstrate the knowledge to interpret the main clinical-instrumental diagnoses of audiological and otological diseases

Other information

Lectures will be held on-site in compliance with safety standards, provided that further instructions on the ongoing health emergency are not implemented. Supporting material will be available on the specific, student-reserved platform (Elly) and will include slide presentations, audio-video aids or video-recording of the lectures.
